Customs Laboratory

Dutch Customs have their own laboratory. This scientific knowledge centre carries out sample analysis using high-specification equipment and specialist knowledge. The results are interpreted to create classification opinions for goods and for the assessment of certain aspects relating to Safety, Health, Economy and Environment.

This is carried out in accordance with an international quality system.

In addition, the Laboratory provides scientific advice to organizations including the European Union and the World Customs Organization  and participates in the Expert Teams (EU). In its role as a knowledge centre, the Laboratory is also a driving force behind Dutch Customs innovation and actively participates in various research projects aimed at the implementation of new technologies in the control process.
