You do not reside in the Netherlands

If you do not reside or have income in the Netherlands, you are basically not covered by the Dutch national insurance schemes. In that case, you do not have to pay any contributions anymore and you lose the right to a benefit under the Surviving Dependants Act, the Exceptional Medical Expenses Act or the General Child Benefit Act and child benefit. You will also stop accruing old age pension rights if you emigrate (the old age pensions rights already accrued, will continue to exist). However, there are situations where you remain covered by the Dutch national insurance schemes according to national and international regulations, even after your emigration.

If you do not live in the Netherlands but have income in or from the Netherlands, assessments must be made as to whether you are compulsorily covered by the Dutch national insurance schemes. This is dependent on the income you have in the Netherlands.
