Tax return for 2015: PIN code no longer required
Do you live outside of the Netherlands, and did you file your income tax return with a PIN code? This will be changing with effect from your tax return for 2015. You will no longer be able to use a PIN code. For your 2015 tax return you will need a DigiD, or a user name and password.
Applying for DigiD
Do you not have a DigiD and is your home address is outside of the Netherlands? If you have Dutch nationality and meet all of the conditions you can apply for a DigiD (only available in Dutch).
How do I obtain a user name and password?
Do you live outside of the Netherlands, and are you liable for the payment of tax abroad? If you do not have a DigiD you can file your tax return for 2015 with a user name and password. Have you received an invitation to file a return for 2015? If so, you will automatically be sent a user name and password from beginning April 2016 onwards.
Apply for user name and password
If you did not receive a user name and password, you can apply for them yourself with the form ‘Verzoek inloggegevens buitenlandse belastingplichtige voor aangifte inkomstenbelasting’ (only available in Dutch).
How does it work?
- Once you have completed and sent us the form, we will send you two letters: one with your username and one with your password.
- You will receive the letters at the address we have on file.
- You can file your return online once you have received your username and password.
Assistance from a tax intermediary
Are you being assisted by an accountant, administration or bookkeeping firm or another tax intermediary? And are they filing your tax return for 2015? In that case you will not need a user name and password.

Are you filing a tax return for 2014 or previously? In that case you will need to use your PIN code.
