Temporary stay in the Netherlands: exemption from BPM, customs duties and turnover

You can use this form to apply for an exemption from customs duties, VAT (btw - belasting over de toegevoegde waarde), BPM (Private Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Tax - Belasting van Personenauto's en Motorrijwielen). The exemptions is for a new car or motorcycle that you will buy.

Conditions

You can get the exemption if you meet these conditions:

  • You live outside the Netherlands.
  • You are buying a new passenger car or motorcycle in the Netherlands.
  • After your stay in the Netherlands, you will take the vehicle with you to another country and register it there.

The exemption does not apply to motor vehicle tax (MRB - motorrijtuigenbelasting).

Please note!

If you receive the exemption, the RDW (Netherlands Vehicle Authority) will give you a licence plate that is only valid for a short period. If you or someone else uses the vehicle in the Netherlands after this period, you will have to pay BPM.

How to fill in the form

You can fill in the form on your computer. You need Adobe Reader version 9.0 or higher. After you have filled in the form, you print the form, sign it and send it by post.
