Items of cultural worth (art and antiques)

Items of cultural worth such as art and antiques cannot be brought out the Netherlands just like that.

You may only export items of cultural value from the Netherlands if you have received a licence for this purpose from the Erfgoedinspectie (State Inspectorate for Cultural Heritage) (only available in Dutch) of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Whether you need a licence depends on the value and age of the item of cultural value you wish to export. In this respect, the same rules apply in all the countries of the EU.

Example

A minimum value of drawing is determined as € 15,000 and a minimum age as 50 years.

If a drawing exceeds both 'thresholds', an export licence will in general be required. Application forms for export licences, please call the Customs Information Line: 0800 - 0143 (free of charge). Calling from abroad? Please dial: +31 45 574 30 31
