I am leaving the Netherlands again

If you are leaving the Netherlands, you are no longer entitled to any benefits. Please check what you have to do for each benefit if you are leaving the Netherlands again.

I receive the rent benefit

You have to discontinue the rent benefit. Information about how to do this can be found under I want to submit a change. You should notify your municipality of your move.

I receive the healthcare benefit

We discontinue the healthcare benefit. Call the Tax Information Line if you keep your Dutch healthcare insurance. In that case, we will not discontinue the healthcare benefit. You should notify your municipality of your move.

I receive the supplementary child benefit

You are no longer entitled to child benefit. In that case, you are no longer entitled to the supplementary child benefit either. We discontinue this benefit. You should notify your municipality of your move.

I receive the childcare benefit

You have to discontinue the childcare benefit. Information about how to do this can be found under I want to submit a change. You should notify your municipality of your move.

Exceptions

In some situations you do retain the right to receive supplementary child benefit or childcare benefit (information only available in Dutch). For example, if you live abroad, but work in the Netherlands.

I received too much benefit

If you received too much benefit, you will have to pay this back. You must also do so when you no longer live in the Netherlands.

You must for example pay back benefit, when:

  • the final calculation shows that your actual income was higher than the estimated annual income that was used to calculate your benefit.
  • you discontinued your benefit too late and subsequently received benefit for the months for which you were no longer entitled to it.
  • inspection shows that you do not meet the requirements to receive the benefit.

If you received too much benefit, you will be sent a letter stating the amount that you have to pay back.

Mijn toeslagen (available in Dutch only) lists the information we used to calculate your benefit.
