Report a suspicious phone call or letter

Have you received a phone call or letter from someone claiming to be the Dutch Tax Administration (Belastingdienst)? It may be a scam.

We sometimes call or send letters. But we never:

  • ask for payment details over the phone without checking your identity
  • threaten you with penalties if you do not pay immediately
  • ask for personal details without proper verification

Still unsure if the contact was real? Report it.

How to report a suspicious phone call

  1. Write down:

    • the phone number of the caller
    • what the caller said
    • any bank account number or website they mentioned
    • whether the call was threatening or urgent
  2. Send an email with this information

Email this information to valse-email@belastingdienst.nl (Use this email address only for this purpose. Do not use it for tax-related questions.)

You can also check if the phone number is on our list of official numbers (only available in Dutch).

How to report a suspicious letter

  • Take a clear photo of the letter
  • Or send the original letter by post to:

    Belastingdienst / Security Operations Center
    P.O. Box 9050
    7300 GM Apeldoorn
    The Netherlands

  • Or email a photo of the letter to valse-email@belastingdienst.nl (Use this email address only for this purpose. Do not use it for tax-related questions.)

What happens after you report it?

  • You will receive a confirmation that your message or letter has been received.
  • We will investigate and take action if needed.
  • Because we receive many reports, we cannot respond personally.
