How to change or give us your bank account number

How you change or give us a bank account number depends on the reason. In most cases, you can do this online.

When do we ask you to give us your bank account number?

We do this when we don't have your bank account number yet and you're due a refund from us. For example, when you receive a tax refund for the first time. In those situations, you will receive a letter from us asking you to give us your bank account number (again).

When do we ask you to give us your bank account number again?

We do this when, for example, we are not allowed to use the bank account number that we have. Or if we haven't deposited any payments, like a tax return, into your bank account for 36 months or longer. This way, we can be sure the money gets to the right person and is paid into the correct bank account.

We only check if a bank account number belongs to the correct person when we make a payment, not when you make a payment to us.

Please note!

Are you using the switching service (Overstapservice) of your new bank for your new bank account number? This does not automatically change the bank account number in our records. You still need to give us the new bank account number yourself.

How do you change or give us your bank account number?

Do you need to change or give us your bank account number for benefits (toeslagen)? Go to 'Benefits' to see how you can do this.

Do you need to change or give us your bank account number for a tax? Then check under that tax. If the tax is not listed, you can find the information under 'Other taxes'.

Do you need to give us a bank account number because you're expecting a return for a deceased person? You can find the information under 'Bank account number of a deceased person'.

Are you an entrepreneur, do you have a sole proprietorship (eenmanszaak) or do you represent a legal entity (rechtspersoon)? In these cases, the new bank account number does not have to be a business bank account.

  • Benefits (toeslagen)

Change or give us your bank account number as follows:

    1. Log in to Mijn toeslagen with your DigiD.
    2. Select 'Wijziging doorgeven' under 'Administratie'.

You will see the bank account number known to us. We only pay a benefit or allowance to you if the benefit or allowance is in your name. The transaction / everyday bank account (not a savings account) to which we pay must also be in your name. Only you can change this bank account number. Your benefits partner cannot.
    4. Complete the questions.
    5. Click 'Akkoord en verzenden'.

You will receive a confirmation letter within 3 weeks stating that we have processed your (new) bank account number.

Processing your bank account number takes time

You will receive a confirmation letter within 3 weeks stating that we have processed your (new) bank account number. We may pay the amount to your old bank account number or debit the amount from your old account number 1 more time before the update has been carried out.

    Direct debit

Do you want to change the bank account number for your direct debit (automatische incasso) for the provisional assessment? In that case, it matters whether you change banks and whether you use the switching service (Overstapservice).

You change banks and use the switching service (Overstapservice)

You don't have to apply for a new direct debit. You can apply for the switching service at your new bank.

We receive the new bank account number from your new bank and update it in our records. Each payment is then automatically collected from the new bank account, on the same day of the month as you are used to.

You change banks without using the switching service (Overstapservice), or you don't switch banks

You can give us the new bank account number in 2 ways:

    • Online through the 'Overzicht betalen en ontvangen' (Payments and refunds overview)

After logging in, select 'Rekeningnummer wijzigen' (Change bank account number) next to the bank account number used for your monthly payments. Follow the steps and keep your banking app ready.

      • Your new account number will take effect straight away.
      • You cannot choose a future start date.
      • Only enter an account number you want to use immediately.

You will see right away if your change was successful. If we are still processing it, please check the status again later. You will also receive a confirmation letter within 3 weeks to confirm that we have processed your new bank account number.

      Please note!

Once your new account number appears in the overview, it is active. If you make the change just after we collect a payment, we may still collect that month’s payment from your old bank account number.

    • Call the Tax Information Line (BelastingTelefoon): 0800 – 0543

Ask for a direct debit authorisation form (machtigingsformulier).

      • Fill in the form and send it to us.
      • Once we have processed it, we will send you a confirmation letter.
      • This can take up to 3 weeks.
      Please note!

We may still collect 1 more payment from your old bank account number.

  • Motor vehicle tax (motorrijtuigenbelasting)

    Direct debit

Do you want to change the bank account number for the direct debit (automatische incasso) for the motor vehicle tax? In that case, it matters whether you are changing banks and whether you are using the switching service (Overstapservice).

You change banks and use the switching service (Overstapservice)

You don't need to request a new direct debit. You can apply for the switching service at your new bank.

We receive your new bank account number from your new bank and update it in our records. Each payment is then automatically collected from the new bank account around the 28th of the month.

You change banks without the switching service (Overstapservice), or you don't change banks

You can give us your new bank account number in 2 ways:

    • Online via 'Overzicht betalen en ontvangen' (Payment and receipt overview)

      Please note!

Once your new bank account number appears in the overview, it is active. Did you make the change just after the direct debit date, around the 28th of the month? Then, we may still collect 1 more payment from your old bank account number.

    • Call the Tax Information Line Cars (BelastingTelefoon Auto): 0800 – 0749

Ask for a direct debit authorisation form (machtigingsformulier).
