Someone in my home receives care at home
Do you or does your benefits partner need care, or do you have 1 or more co-residents that need care? And is this care provided at home instead of in a care home or nursing home? Then you can ask us not to include this person when we calculate your rent benefit.
Who can we leave out of the calculation for the rent benefit?
If you don't receive rent benefit, you must first apply for it.
Afterwards, you can ask us not to include 1 or more residents for the rent benefit. This does not have to be the person receiving care. We will choose the situation most beneficial to you. We do not take into account the income and assets of the residents that are not included for the rent benefit. The person applying for the rent benefit is always included.
What are the conditions for not including someone's income and assets?
- The person receiving in-home care has an indication from the Centrum Indicatiestelling Zorg (CIZ), under the 'Wet langdurige zorg' (Wlz).
- The person receiving care is not a child under 18.
- The total income of everyone in your home, including the people we do not count, is not more than €58,400 in 2025. In 2024 the maximum was €57,075, in 2023 €52,425, in 2022 €49,525 and in 2021 €48,800.
- The savings of the person or persons we do not count must not be too high. We check this based on their income tax return. Their income from savings and investments must not be more than €5,322 in 2025. In 2024 the maximum was €5,201, in 2023 €4,778, in 2022 €4,514 and in 2021 €4,448.

How do I report that someone in my home receives care?
First apply for rent benefit. Afterwards, inform us about your special situation with the Verzoek bijzondere situatie huurtoeslag form (Request Special Situation Rent Benefit, only available in Dutch). We will then assess your request. You can submit a request up to 5 years after the year it applies to. You do not need to submit a new request every year.
The request also applies to future years.
