Healthcare benefit if you live in the Netherlands and work abroad

Do you live in the Netherlands and work abroad? In most cases, you are not insured in the Netherlands, but instead must take out health insurance (zorgverzekering) abroad. If you don't have mandatory Dutch health insurance, you cannot get Dutch healthcare (zorgtoeslag).

Check the website of the Sociale Verzekeringsbank (SVB) to find out when you are insured in the Netherlands.

You are on secondment abroad

Have you been seconded abroad with an A1 statement by your Dutch employer? Then you have mandatory health insurance in the Netherlands against healthcare costs. You are required to have Dutch health insurance. You can also get healthcare benefit, if you meet the other conditions.

Your benefits partner is insured abroad

Are you insured in the Netherlands, but is your benefits partner (toeslagpartner) insured abroad? In that case, you are entitled to half of the benefit amount that someone with a benefits partner who is insured in the Netherlands would get. Your benefits partner's income still counts when we calculate the healthcare benefit.
