You are in the military - can you get healthcare benefit?
No. If you are on active duty in the military, your health insurance is provided by the Ministry of Defence. You do not have separate health insurance, so you cannot get healthcare benefit (zorgtoeslag).
Are you currently receiving healthcare benefit?
Are you cancelling your health insurance? Make sure you also cancel your healthcare benefit as soon as possible. This prevents you from receiving too much or having to pay back benefits.
You can cancel your healthcare benefit in Mijn toeslagen (only available in Dutch):
- Go to 'Wijziging doorgeven' (Report changes).
- Select 'Toeslag stoppen' (Stop benefit).
- Choose 'Zorgtoeslag' (Healthcare benefit).
Can your partner still get healthcare benefit?
Yes, if your partner has health insurance. In that case, your partner gets half of the benefit you would normally get together. Your partner must apply for healthcare benefit themselves.
Were you in the military before, but not anymore?
Then you must take out health insurance again. After that, you can apply for healthcare benefit again.
Does your partner already get healthcare benefit? Then you don’t need to do anything. We will automatically raise the benefit to the joint amount you are entitled to.
Things worked differently before 2023
Did you get healthcare benefit, and did you join the military? Or were you in the military before, but not anymore? Before 2023, you had to report it to us. This is no longer the case.
